Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that he did not leave Paris Saint-Germain because of Real Madrid as he had already decided that he wanted out before the Liga giants' approach.
The Italian coach guided PSG to its first Ligue 1 title since 1994 last season, yet he opted to say farewell to the French power as he felt the club lacked patience.
"Everybody thought that I left because I had Real Madrid, but this is not true. I made this decision as it had become too complicated at PSG," Ancelotti told L'Equipe. "When I signed with PSG I believed in a project. New players were joining, a team was about to be built and this is something that takes time.
"The first six months were good, but the following year I realized that the management had changed their point of view. There was no project anymore, just an idea to get results immediately."
Ancelotti felt under pressure after a string of disappointing performances in December, but he eventually made up his mind after a 1-0 loss to Reims in March.
"I did not feel the trust of Leonardo and the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi]. It is true that we had played badly, but I thought that after the good three months we just had, I would have a bit of tranquility.
"The day after, I told Leonardo that I would not coach PSG in 2013-14."
