Altidore headed to England
Jozy Altidore passed his physical last week and will be heading to England, signing a four-year deal with Premier League club Sunderland. The forward is coming off two stellar years with AZ Alkmaar, tallying over 50 goals in all competitions. Altidore last played in the Premier League during the 2009-10 campaign with Hull but returns a much more seasoned competitor even though he's still just 23.The Black cats finished 17th last season as they struggled to score goals. Altidore should step right in and contribute in that area.
Bedoya nearing a move
U.S International Alejandro Bedoya is close to signing with Dutch club FC Twente. The 26-year-old signed a six-month contract with Swedish side Helsingborg at the start of 2013 in hopes of inking a longer deal during the summer. Bedoya scored five goals in 11 games during 2013.
Guzan gets a new deal
Brad Guzan’s stellar 2012-13 campaign has earned him a new deal. The 28-year-old goalkeeper signed a four-year contract with Aston Villa on Saturday, keeping him at the English Premier League club until the summer of 2017. Guzan joined the club in July 2008 but really had a landmark showing last season when he earned Player of the Year honors from the club.
Bocanegra returns to MLS
Carlos Bocanegra, who last played for Racing Santander, has left Europe to join Chivas USA in Major League Soccer. The 34-year-old defender began his career with the Chicago Fire before playing in England for Fulham. He spent the next nine years playing for Rennes, Saint-Etienne, Rangers, and finally Racing Santander.
