Jozy Altidore added another gem to his 2012-13 campaign on Sunday, scoring three goals to lead his club to victory. Altidore set the pace early, scoring all of his goals within a nine minute period in the first half. The U.S. international scored from the penalty spot in the 28th and 34th minute before executing a header three minutes later to put his squad up 3-0.
FC Utrecht was unfortunate to see two men sent off in the first half, which allowed AZ to balloon the score to 6-0. Nonetheless, Altidore’s season tally is up to 28 across all competitions. The win was also a crucial one for the club as it now has a six point cushion above the relegation zone.
Deuce on the loose
Clint Dempsey kept Tottenham alive as long as he could on Thursday, scoring early and late as Spurs battled with FC Basel in Europa League quarterfinal action. Dempsey took advantage of a Basel error, rounding the keeper to put Spurs up 1-0 in the first half. The hosts equalized shortly thereafter and took the lead just after the restart. However, in the 82nd minute, Dempsey hit back. Tom Huddlestone set up the Texas native and Dempsey made no mistake, drilling in the equalizer to make it 2-2.
Unfortunately for Spurs, Basel prevailed 4-1 on penalties, sending the London club home empty handed. Still, Dempsey’s effort was valiant and he upped his goal total to 10 in all competitions this season.
Guzan does not make a save in draw

For Howard, it was his sixth clean sheet this season.

The U.S. international picked up a yellow card during a heated contest in which six cards were given out.
