American walking to the World Cup for charity dies en route

Richard Swanson was struck by a car and died on Tuesday. The 42-year-old was two weeks into a proposed year-long journey to the World Cup. He was walking from Seattle, Wash. to Sao Paulo, Brazil for charity.

The trek was supposed to cover 11 countries in 12 months. Instead it ended in Lincoln City, Ore. on the shoulder of U.S. 101. A Nissan truck hit him from behind, and Swanson died in a hospital shortly after. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the police.

Swanson was walking and posting YouTube videos in support of the One World Futbol Project.
