RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka will make his next rehab start Saturday for Class AAA Pawtucket (R.I.) after he was shut down for seven days because of stiffness in his right trapezius muscle. Chicago: LHP John Danks will be placed on the disabled list due to soreness behind his left shoulder, manager Robin Ventura said. Danks was hurt in his Saturday start against the Cubs, and he was awaiting the results of an MRI performed Thursday. LHP Jose Quintana, 23, will be called up to start Friday against the Indians. Quintana was 1-3 with a 2.77 ERA in nine starts for Class AA Birmingham (Hoover, Ala.). ... IF Orlando Hudson, who had never played third base in the majors before signing with the White Sox this week, got his second consecutive start at the position. "He looks fine over there," Ventura said. Cleveland: DH Travis Hafner, who fouled a ball off his right shin in Wednesday's game, did not play in the series finale against the Tigers. He is day-to-day. ... RH closer Chris Perez blew a save on opening day but since has gone 16-for-16 in save situations. During that stretch, he has a 1.45 ERA and a .157 opponents' batting average. Perez is tied with Baltimore RH closer Jim Johnson for the major league lead in saves. Detroit: CF Austin Jackson was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 17 due to abdominal soreness. He tried to come back Tuesday but he didn't feel right either running or in batting practice. 2B/OF Ryan Raburn came off the bereavement list. ... RH reliever Luis Marte was recalled from a rehab assignment, and he will join the Tigers on Friday for the start of a three-game series in Minnesota. Marte had made Detroit's opening-day roster, but he pulled his left hamstring in his final spring outing. RH reliever Luke Putkonen (0-2, 8.59 ERA) was optioned to Class AAA Toledo (Ohio). Kansas City: LF Alex Gordon has one hit in his last 16 at-bats with runners in scoring position after grounding into a double play Wednesday. On the season, he is hitting .188 (9-for-48) with RISP. Gordon has not hit a home run in 23 games, since April 27 at Minnesota. ... Class AAA Omaha OF Wil Myers' home run Wednesday was believed to be the longest in the two-year history of Werner Park in Papillion, Neb. Through seven games since his mid-May promotion from Class AA, Myers, 21, was hitting .417 with a .500 on-base percentage, two homers and five RBI. Los Angeles: The Angels designated RH reliever David Pauley for assignment and promoted IF Andrew Romine from Class AAA Salt Lake (Salt Lake City). Pauley made four appearances for the Angels, allowing six runs (five earned) on 15 hits in 9 1/3 innings. However, the Angels had been carrying 13 pitchers since Monday. Romine, 26, hit .312 with two home runs, 17 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 40 games for Salt Lake. ... Twelve times since 2010, RHP Jered Weaver has pitched at least seven innings and allowed no more than one earned run but wound up with a loss or a no-decision. He is 3-1 with a 3.24 ERA in five starts this month. Minnesota: Justin Morneau made his sixth consecutive start at first base, and manager Ron Gardenhire said he's comfortable keeping Morneau there most of the time. The Twins had used Morneau as a designated hitter almost exclusively at the beginning of the year to keep him well-rested after he spent the much of the past two years battling concussion symptoms ... C Ryan Doumit, who has been limited to DH duty after returning from a strained right calf, could get back behind the plate as soon as Friday, Gardenhire said. In his past seven games through Wednesday, Doumit was hitting .364 (8-for-22) with one homer and five RBI. New York: LF Brett Gardner underwent an MRI on his injured right elbow Wednesday, and while the test showed his muscle strain had healed, he continued to feel some stiffness in the arm. Gardner was due to move his rehab to Tampa, but he isn't expected to pick up a bat until Monday. ... RH reliever David Robertson (strained left side muscle) was set to travel to Tampa to continue his rehab, which would begin with playing catch for the first time in two weeks. Robertson will be eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday, but he's unlikely to return until late next week. Oakland: RHP Graham Godfrey said he was told he should be able to make his next scheduled start after coming out of Tuesday's game following the third inning because of a right middle finger injury. Godfrey will have five days off between starts because of Oakland's day off Thursday. ... CF Yoenis Cespedes took 40 swings off a tee Wednesday, 30 with a regular bat and 10 with a fungo bat, and he was pain-free for the second day in a row. Cespedes is on the disabled list with a muscle strain in his left hand, and his return date remained unknown because he had yet to take batting practice. Seattle: C Miguel Olivo, who missed 22 games due to a right groin strain, was activated from the disabled list and got the start against the Angels. The Mariners cleared a roster spot for Olivo by optioning OF Casper Wells to Class AAA Tacoma (Wash.). Wells hit .213 with a .302 on-base percentage, one homer and six RBI in 25 games. ... 3B/LF Alex Liddi began the season getting starts against left-handed pitching. He's received chances in the last two weeks against right-handers, too, and Wednesday he delivered a decisive grand slam. "Alex is a guy who is capable of doing some damage," manager Eric Wedge said. "He works as hard as anybody we have." Tampa Bay: OF Desmond Jennings said his sprained left knee has improved, and he expects to head out soon on a minor league rehab assignment with the plan of returning to the lineup sometime next week. Jennings is eligible to be reinstated Sunday but said he won't be ready then. He will wear a brace on his knee when he returns. ... OF Sam Fuld said following a check-up this week that his recovery from right wrist surgery is going well. He should be able to start swinging a bat by mid-June and could be ahead of schedule for his planned mid-August return. Texas: The Rangers claimed LH reliever John Gaub, 27, off waivers from the Rays and optioned him to Class AAA Round Rock (Texas). Gaub had gone 0-1 with one save and a 4.32 ERA in 16 2/3 innings over 16 games for Class AAA Durham (N.C.). ... The Rangers finished a stretch of 20 games in 20 days with a 10-10 record, but they lost six of the last 10 to Kansas City, Oakland, Houston and Seattle. "It feels like we've been playing forever," SS Elvis Andrus said. Toronto: 2B Kelly Johnson is listed as day-to-day after he was forced to leave Wednesday's game with tightness in his left hamstring. He hopes that Thursday's day off will help. "The left leg has been sore for a while," Johnson said. "It has been about managing it, but now when I run, it's just not loosening up." ... LHP Ricky Romero has walked 21 in his past four starts. "If you don't have command of your fastball, the other stuff is kind of worthless," Romero said. Brian Roberts drew walks in both of his plate appearances and played three innings in the field Wednesday during his first rehab game for Class AA Bowie (Md.). Roberts, out for just over a year due to problems caused by a concussion, is expected to spend 20 days in the minors before rejoining the Orioles.Baltimore: LH reliever J.C. Romero and the Orioles agreed to terms on a minor league contract, and the 35-year-old veteran could be used in a situational role if he makes the majors. He'll report to Class AAA Norfolk (Va.). Romero was released by St. Louis on May 14 after posting a 10.13 ERA in 11 appearances. ... 2B
