Lichaj was not re-signed by Aston Villa, where he had spent the duration of his professional career, which began in 2008. Lichaj made 23 appearances (14 starts) in all competitions for Paul Lambert's side this past season, and he joins Billy Davies' League Championship side that has an eye on promotion to the Premier League.
Lichaj has spent time in England's second tier, most recently in 2011 when he was on loan with Leeds United.
“Eric is a great signing for us. He has experience at the top level of English football and arrives at an important stage of his career," Davies told the club's official website. “We are very much looking forward to working with him.”
Lichaj has been capped eight times by the U.S. national team but has not been called in since Jurgen Klinsmann became manager. His last international appearance came in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Mexico.
