COMMENTARY | With every day, the Cleveland Browns dealing running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft looks more and more like the best/worst trade ever.
TMZ reported on Tuesday evening that somebody is attempting to sell off a sex tape involving the former first round pick and current Indianapolis running back. The story claims that the tape shows Richardson "engaged in an orgy with at least three women." Richardson's camp had not commented on the TMZ report as of Wednesday morning.
Richardson has two daughters and a son. His daughters were born when he was in high school - one during his sophomore year, and the other when he was a senior. His son was born last year.
Dustin Fox of Cleveland sports talk radio station 92.3 The Fan decided to have some fun with the story right after it broke, giving birth to the "
#TrentPornNames " Twitter hashtag. Some of the best names Browns fans came up with included:
And, last but not least, a plethora of "Three and out" jokes and also NSFW Tweets that can't be posted here.
Richardson had his name in the headlines last March when he was sued by two women who claimed that they were assaulted in the player's home in December 2012. Elyria City Prosecutor Matt Mishak announced in May that no charges would be filed regarding that matter. There are several holes in the case, including what have been been referred to as "conflicting statements and lack of evidence."
Off the field issues aren't Richardson's only concerns this fall. He gained just 105 yards on 31 total carries, good for an average of 3.4 yards per carry, in two games with the Browns in September. That average has dropped to 2.8 yards per carry since he landed in Indianapolis. Richardson has found the end zone on just two occasions in 2013.
Richardson was meant to provide a bit of relief for Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck. He has, instead, been lagging in production behind Donald Brown. Some are even referring to Richardson as a bust.
A professional athlete being involved in a sex tape is hardly a reason for a team to part ways with that player. The Browns are legitimate playoff contenders as they prepare to face off with the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, and this is the type of circus they don't need to deal with at the moment. Once again, those within the Cleveland front office look like the smartest guys in the room.
As always, Colts, there are no givebacks.
