Aleksander Barkov: Selected By Panthers at No. 2

Rotowire.com
Update: Barkov was selected by the Panthers with the second overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Recommendation: Sasha is a stud – there’s no other way to say it. He has future star written all over him … in an Anze Kopitar kind of way. He has a pro body and x-ray vision, and he absolutely excels in a puck possession game. He was so good as a 17-year-old in the Finnish League that it was often he who set the games’ tempos, not his veteran teammates. And he ended up in the league’s top-10 scorers. Sure, his skating isn’t as slick as Jonathan Drouin’s or Nathan MacKinnon’s, but he has top-line, point-per-game skill as well. You can’t go wrong if he’s still on the board when you pick. Just don’t expect him in the NHL right away – he’s one of the youngest in the 2013 Draft. But he’ll be worth the wait.
