Albertini denies Prandelli promise to recall Criscito

Italian Football Federation (FIGC) vice-president Demetrio Albertini has dismissed Domenico Criscito's claim that he was promised a recall to the Italy squad for Euro 2012 by Cesare Prandelli in the case of an injury.

The Zenit St Petersburg defender was omitted from the squad after being implicated in the Scommessopoli scandal, but, following an injury to Andrea Barzagli, a spot in the Azzurri side may become available which Criscito believes to be promised to him by Prandelli.

However, Albertini has now claimed that the former Fiorentina coach would only consider the 25-year-old should he be proven innocent.

"I was there when they [Criscito and Prandelli] discussed this," Albertini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He added, "Prandelli said: 'If you are no longer under investigation and someone gets injured, you are the first that I will consider.'

"Firstly, we hope  Barzagli will recuperate. Secondly, there are no new developments with Criscito."

With the 25-year-old still under investigation, Italy have instead asked Cagliari defender Davide Astori to remain on stand-by should Barzagli fail to recover.

The Azzurri's opening European Championship match comes against reigning champions Spain on June 10.
