Alabama's Ely considering transferring

Alabama backup quarterback Phillip Ely is considering transferring to another school, according to 247Sports.com.

With AJ McCarron leading the Crimson Tide to a second straight BCS title and having a strong hold on the starting job next season, Ely is reportedly looking at South Florida.

Ely played in six games this season after redshirting his first year. He completed three-of-four passes for 42 yards with a touchdown. He started 2012 as the No. 2 quarterback but shared backup duties with sophomore Blake Sims later in the season.

If Ely transfers to another FBS school, he has to sit out the 2013 season. That would leave him with two years of eligibility.

Alabama is bringing in two quarterbacks as part of its latest recruiting class.
