The son of former All-American running back Bobby Humphrey is heading to his father's former school.

Marlon Humphrey, a five-star recruit from Hoover (Ala.) High School ranked as the No. 1 cornerback prospect by 247 Sports, committed to Alabama on Wednesday, choosing the Crimson Tide over Florida State and others.

"Thanks for everyone that has supported me this far I'm happy to say I am committed to the University of Alabama!! #RollTide," Humphrey announced on Twitter.

The first day for football recruits to sign national letters of intent is one week from now on Feb. 5.

"Now that it's over, he can take a deep breath," Hoover coach Josh Niblett told ESPN. "The thing with him is he's handled the process unbelievably. He's had a plan, he's had his ducks in a row. He did a really good job of looking at all the aspects of the programs recruiting him.

"In the end, he wanted to see what was the best fit for him and the best for his future. And obviously that choice came down to the University of Alabama."

Humphrey had 35 tackles and three interceptions during his senior season at Hoover, which won a state championship.

Humphrey's oral committment adds to Alabama's 2014 class, which is ranked by the major recruiting services as the best in the country. The Crimson Tide currently have 25 commitments.
