MT. PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) Zeke Marshall and Nick Harney scored 13 points each and Akron used a four-point possession late in the game to pull away for a 74-64 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The Zips (14-7, 6-1 Mid-American) led 63-60 with 1:37 remaining when Quincy Diggs went to the free-throw line. Diggs made the first and missed the second free throw, but Marshall got the rebound and was fouled as he converted the follow-up. Marshall's ensuing free throw put Akron ahead 67-60, and the Zips hit 7 of 10 from the line down the stretch to secure the victory.
Derek Jackson scored 21 points to lead Central Michigan (7-13, 2-5). Trey Zeigler added 16 points and nine rebounds, and Austin McBroom had 14 points.
Chauncey Gilliam added 11 points for Akron, which led by as many as 19 points en route to a 40-28 halftime lead.
