Akron 65, Ohio 46

Junior forward Demetrius Treadwell had 13 points and nine rebounds, helping Akron secure an NCAA Tournament bid with a 65-46 victory over Ohio in the Mid-American Conference championship game Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Senior forward Chauncey Gilliam also scored 13 points for top-seeded Akron (26-6), which was appearing in its seventh consecutive MAC title game.

Senior forward Reggie Keely scored a game-high 19 points for Ohio (24-9), which lost for only the second time in eight MAC title game appearances.

Ohio led by as many as nine points in the first half, but Akron cut the lead to 29-26 at the break. The Zips tied the score early in the second half and went ahead on a layup by Treadwell with 15:27 remaining.

Akron stretched its lead to 10 with just under seven minutes remaining and broke the game open with an 11-0 run that put the Zips up 63-42 with 2:03 to play.

Akron shot 44.2 percent from the field and held Ohio to 33.3 percent.

Neither team shot well from 3-point range. The Zips made 3 of 11 and the Bobcats made 1 of 20.
