Agent says Cowboys placing franchise tag on Anthony Spencer

National Football Post

The Dallas Cowboys have been making moves to get under the salary cap, including the release of veteran safety Gerald Sensabaugh earlier today, and now they’re going to use the space on one of their own.

Jordan Woy, the agent for outside linebacker/defensive end Anthony Spencer, announced via Twitter that the Cowboys will place the franchise tag on his client. It is the second straight year the Cowboys have used the tag on Spencer.

The franchise tag will cost the Cowboys $10.64 million on Spencer this season unless the sides can finally hammer out a multi-year contract. Dallas could free up much more cap space if quarterback Tony Romo can get an extension done but no progress has been made on that to this point.

“We will work on long term deal,” Woy wrote on his Twitter account.
