Adrian Peterson is a must avoid for the Philadelphia Eagles

I feel like I am stuck in a time loop here. I feel like I just wrote an article stating that the Philadelphia Eagles must avoid Jamaal Charles during free agency due to his injury issues and age. Now tonight, I am writing an article about how the Philadelphia Eagles should avoid Adrian Peterson due to his injury issues and his age. Deja vu.

But seriously, these last couple of days have just been one big running back cut after another. That said, much like my article about Jamaal Charles, I am urging the Philadelphia Eagles to avoid Adrian Peterson this offseason. Given his age and his recent knee injury, there are much better options that can be had either in free agency or from the draft.

While Peterson does have his share of positives including 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns in his ten combined NFL seasons, his recent history does not paint that bright of a picture. Coming off of a bad knee injury in 2016, Peterson will have a tough time getting back to full speed despite his short return to the team last season.

Add into this the fact that Peterson will be 32 years old before the end of March and you have a bad combination of factors. With many running backs to choose from in both free agency and the draft, someone that is close to Peterson’s current level can be found. This player will almost certainly be younger as well, something that is needed in running backs due to wear and tear.

Though Peterson could still have a good year or two in him, it is unlikely that his production will be worth the cost that his signature will demand. Let us also not forget that the Eagles are a bit short on salary cap space this offseason, making how they spend their money even more important than normal.

In the end, its all about the numbers. One knee injury. 32 years of age. High priced contract. Add all three of these together and you will get a recipe for complete disaster.
