Admirals win AHL title by sweeping Marlies

Mike Kostaka scored two goals and Dustin Tokarski made 18 saves to lead the Norfolk Admirals a 6-1 victory Saturday night and a 4-0 sweep of the AHL Calder Cup Finals series.

The Admirals, who are top affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning, won their first American Hockey League title in their 12-year history. It was also their first trip to the finals.

Norfolk's Alex Picard, who scored six goals in 42 regular-season games, was selected as the playoffs MVP after scoring nine goals in 18 postseason games.

It was also the first finals for the Marlies, who are the top farm team for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Two days earlier, Norfolk won Game 3 in Toronto on an unexpected overtime goal that bounced off the boards. The AHL said Friday the goal should not have counted since it occurred during a delayed offside call.
