Admirals 4, Wolves 3

After a three-game road trip in Texas, the Chicago Wolves were closer to home on Friday, but they couldn't come away with a win in Milwaukee, getting outshot by the home team 37-23 and falling to the Admirals 4-3.

Matt Halischuk scored two goals for Milwaukee.

The last time the Admirals (26-25-3-3) and Wolves (28-19-4-3) met, Chicago scored four goals in the first 15 minutes.

Things were different Friday.

Milwaukee got on the board first this time, when center Michael Latta set up left wing Kevin Henderson, who rifled a shot top shelf to beat Matt Climie 2:40 into the first period.

The Wolves responded with a goal of their own when defenseman Mark Matheson redirected a shot from the point and beat goaltender Jeremy Smith to the stick side at 9:47.

Chicago took the lead in the second period as left wing Bill Sweatt put a perfect pass on Darren Archibald's stick, and the right wing rifled it over Smith's right shoulder to make it 2-1 at 2:01. The tally marked Archibald's third goal in four games.

The Wolves entered the third period with that 2-1 lead, but it wouldn't last long.

Halischuk scored on a power play, forcing a puck past Climie 43 seconds into the final period.

Halischuk wasn't done. He rifled a shot from the far corner of the circle that tipped off Climie's shoulder as he tried to make the stop. The puck slipped in the net to put Milwaukee up 3-2 at 10:18.

Right wing Juuso Puustinen added an insurance goal when he took advantage of a scrum in front of Climie to score his 10th goal of the season and give the Admirals a 4-2 cushion at 14:52.

Andrew Ebbett scored a final marker for Chicago after it pulled Climie late in the third.
