Report: Harvard basketball co-captains plan to withdraw from school

Harvard basketball co-captains Kyle Casey and Brandyn Curry both are expected to withdraw from the university after being among the 125 students implicated in an academic fraud scandal, the Boston Herald reported Tuesday.

Curry was expected to withdraw from the university by Tuesday's fall registration deadline, the Herald reported, a source told the Herald. He could return to Harvard next fall with one year of eligibility remaining. reported Monday that Casey plans to withdraw from school as well.

The implicated students were allegedly involved in a cheating scandal in a take-home final exam .

If found guilty of academic dishonesty, those students would face a one-year suspension. By withdrawing from school, Casey and Curry maintain their final year of athletic eligibility.

Casey and Curry both started all 31 games last season for the Crimson, which went 26-5 and got to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1946. Curry averaged 7.9 points and Casey 11.4 points.

The Herald reported that a third basketball player with a smaller role on the team also could be involved.

Some Harvard football players also have been implicated. The team hosts San Diego on Saturday in its season opener.

Harvard football coach Tim Murphy told the Herald that all 24 projected starters coming out of spring ball are in good academic standing.
