Napoli attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik has revealed that AC Milan was interested in signing him last summer.
The 24-year-old recently penned a one-year extension to eliminate any doubts about his future following reports that suggested he could leave the club at the end of the season.
"Last year, there was interest from Milan, but I am fine here," Hamsik told Mediaset Premium.
"This is the third year in a row in which we are playing in Europe. There is a project at this club and this gives me the strength to move forward."
Napoli finished the season in fifth place, 23 points off champions Juventus, and Hamsik acknowledged there is a long way to go before his side can claim the Scudetto.
"We must work hard to fight for the title, we are not yet ready," the Slovakian midfielder added.
"This season was long, we just played our 51st match. The Champions League is very tiring, but everyone wants to play in this competition."
Napoli completed its league campaign on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Siena to seal a fifth-place finish in Serie A. The club will have a chance of silverware on May 20 when it takes on Juventus in the Coppa Italia final.
