Aaron Kromer's interim stint as Saints coach ends with win

National Football Post

Aaron Kromer’s stint as the interim replacement to the interim head coach came to an end Sunday when the New Orleans Saints found a way to pull out a 35-28 victory at Tampa Bay.

Drew Brees was his usual dominant self as he passed for 377 yards and the Saints improved to 2-4. They are a full four games behind the Atlanta Falcons (6-0) in the NFC South but far from being out of the wild card picture in the conference, especially at this early juncture in the season.

Linebackers coach Joe Vitt, who was named the interim replacement for Sean Payton as he is suspended this season, is set to return today from his six-game suspension.

"I'm really happy that we took a team that was not playing well early and we continued to work, continued to believe and won two games in a row," Kromer said Sunday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "And now we're going for our third."

It’s not going to be easy for the Saints to climb into the playoff chase. Brees can keep them in just about any game but the defense has been porous and the Saints are not running the ball with any consistency, the key to putting games away in the second half. They will find out where they stack up in the conference soon. In the next six weeks, New Orleans has two games with the Falcons and they also play the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The time to make a move is now.
