The idea of a new and improved Audi Quattro has been a long time in the making. Since the Quattro concept was unveiled back in Paris in 2010, Audi faithful have been clambering for the day they could actually get behind the wheel of such a magnificent beast.
Unfortunately, most Audi faithful probably never will get that chance, because for the most part, the high-performance Quattro would sit upmarket and have to compete with the already competent R8. So it probably won’t be produced. But Audi does love teasing us so. Like they will at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show with a newer, sexier version of the Quattro concept.
Based on the current Audi A6, reports from Autobild say the new Quattro will be a stripped-naked, carbon-fiber and aluminum piece of engineering, weighing in at a featherlight 2,600 lbs. Pair that to a 600+ horsepower, twin-turbocharged V8, and you’ll be looking at zero to sixty in three seconds flat.
Looks shouldn’t stray much from the one we saw in 2010 and 2011, but with a new body it should be a bit more aggressive. The only question is- will Audi ever produce the damn thing? We sure hope so.
