49ers trying to deal QB McCoy

The San Francisco 49ers are trying to trade quarterback Colt McCoy, the NFL Network reported Sunday.

If they get no takers, the team will likely release him.

McCoy and Scott Tolzien have been competing for the backup spot to Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers also signed Seneca Wallace last week.

The 49ers acquired McCoy from the Cleveland Browns before the April draft for two draft picks.

If the 49ers release McCoy and keep either Wallace or Tolzien, it would save them almost $1 million in salary cap space.

McCoy is 6 of 13 for 76 yards with two interceptions in two preseason games.

The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets may be interested, considering they have injuries at quarterback.

McCoy, Wallace, Tolzien and B.J. Cunningham are expected to play Thursday's preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings.
