49ers sticking with embattled kicker David Akers

For better or worse, the San Francisco 49ers will ride into Super Bowl XLVII with David Akers as their kicker.

Coach Jim Harbaugh announced Monday that the embattled kicker will remain on the job after he missed a 38-yard field goal, hitting it off the left upright, in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game victory at the Georgia Dome.

Akers has been under fire, particularly in the second half of the season, and he’s had far too many misses. Earlier in the postseason, San Francisco brought in veteran Billy Cundiff to compete against him. But Harbaugh cited a strong pregame warmup for Akers in making the decision.

The decision's already been made," Harbaugh said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

He’s got to be hoping it isn’t one he comes to regret
