The San Francisco 49ers signed linebacker and special teams specialist Dan Skuta to a two-year contract on Thursday.
Skuta, 26, spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played in 56 games and recorded 56 special teams tackles and one forced fumble. On defense, he added 48 tackles, one force fumble, 0.5 sack and one pass defensed.
"We are pleased to be adding Dan to our roster," said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. "He is an established special teams player and versatile linebacker who fits our system very well."
Skuta attended college at Grand Valley State where he played a large role in the team's two national titles. As a senior, he earned First-Team All-America NCAA Division II honors.
Skuta originally signed with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He was signed to the practice squad during training camp before being promoted to the active roster during the 2009 regular season.
