The San Francisco 49ers signed wide receiver Quinton Patton to a four-year contract and claimed tight end-long snapper Kyle Nelson off waivers on Wednesday, the team announced.
Patton, one of two fourth-round picks by the 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft, played at Louisiana Tech and received All-Western Athletic Conference first-team honors in his final two seasons.
Nelson, 26, was with the 49ers during training camp last year. In September, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but was waived after a week and hooked on with the San Diego Chargers in November 2012. The Chargers released Nelson on Monday.
To clear space on the roster for Nelson, the 49ers waived punter Anthony Santella, who had signed with San Francisco on May 3.
