49ers free agent LB Grant suspended 4 games

Linebacker Larry Grant has been suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league's policy on performance -enhancing drugs, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

The unrestricted free agent is a four-year veteran who started three games for the San Francisco 49ers last season in place of injured Patrick Willis. Originally a seventh-round pick of the 49ers in 2008, he played in 34 games for the St. Louis Rams over the next three seasons after being signed off San Francisco's practice squad.

Grant, who has visited the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots in free agency, will miss the first four games of the '13 regular season without pay. However, he can sign with a team and practice and participate in meetings until the start of the regular season.
