49ers bring back Dawson

After 14 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, kicker Phil Dawson signed with the San Francisco 49ers last offseason and then went on to set a franchise record with 27 consecutive field goal conversions. That type of consistency—combined with the fact that Dawson holds the NFL record for accuracy at 84.5 percent—and it’s no surprise to see the Niners working to get their kicker back in the fold.

On Tuesday afternoon, Dawson announced via twitter that he had reached an agreement with the 49ers to remain in San Francisco. Per Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, it’s a two-year deal.

The 39-year-old from Texas converted 32 of a possible 36 field goal attempts (88.9 percent) last season while recording a career-best 140 total points for a San Francisco team that made it all the way to the NFC Championship game.
