A prominent member of Texas’ 2017 recruting class was arrested Tuesday.

Reese Leitao, a four-star tight end from Jenks High School in Oklahoma was allegedly attempting to sell Xanax at his high school. Per the police report via the Tulsa World, a two-milligram Xanax pill was found in Leitao’s backpack by the school’s principal.

Leitao reportedly told Beiler that he was selling the drug for money, the report states.

Nearly $1,300 was found in Leitao’s wallet, and another $20 was found in his backpack, police said.

What was in Leitao’s backpack wasn’t the only Xanax he allegedly had either. Per police, he had a bottle of 19 Xanax pills in his underwear and was arrested on possession of a controlled substance near a high school.

Leitao was the No. 11 tight end in the class of 2017 and, according to Rivals, was the No. 4 prospect in the state of Oklahoma. He was one of eight four-star recruits new Texas coach Tom Herman signed in a class of 18. Texas’ recruiting class was listed at No. 31 in the country.

Herman said in a statement following Leitao’s arrest that the school was aware of the situation and would “let the legal system run its course” before making a further comment.

Leitao is the son of DePaul men’s basketball coach Dave Leitao, who was hired at the school in 2015. Before returning for his second stint at DePaul, Leitao was an assistant at Tulsa under Frank Haith.
