It is very hard for world class boxers to retire. So it will not be surprising if the rumors are true and Ricky Hatton decides to make a comeback. And Hatton is only 33 years old. Therefore, if he makes a comeback these are 4 possible opponents for Ricky Hatton?
Juan Manuel Marquez
Manny Pacquiao may decide not to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time. Then, Marquez could consider fighting Hatton. Likewise, he showed interest in fighting Hatton in 2010.
There also were talks about Hatton fighting Marquez after his lost to Pacquiao. And Hatton Promotions thought it would a good fight for Hatton.
Marquez-Hatton would be an interesting bout between two boxers with contrasting fighting styles. Likewise, Hatton is an aggressive fighter that only fights coming forward. And Marquez is an excellent counterpuncher.
Zab Judah rebounded from his loss against Amir Khan by defeating Vernon Paris by TKO in his last fight. And Judah vs. Hatton would be a boxing match between two former champions trying to climb their way back to a title shot.
Judah showed interest in fighting Hatton in 2008. He was in talks with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer about possibility fighting Hatton in England.
Khan-Hatton would be a superfight in the United Kingdom (UK). They are two of the most popular British fighters of their generations.
Khan-Hatton would be a good fight between boxers with opposite strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Hatton is a slow footed fighter that is great at fighting on the inside. And Khan is a bad inside fighter that has elite athleticism.
Khan is pursuing a rematch against Danny Garcia. But, he is open to the possibility of fighting Hatton. And he thinks the fight would be a lot than bigger Haye-Chisora.
Paulie Malignaggi wants to avenge his loss to Hatton. So he is interested in fighting Hatton in Brooklyn. Then, he will give him a third fight in the UK to settle the trilogy.
Malignaggi switched trainers after the Hatton fight. And he now thinks he has the right plan to defeat Hatton.
Hatton may be tempted to come out of retirement to fight Malignaggi. If he defeats Malignaggi he will become the WBA welterweight champion. And the fight would not be a huge risk because Hatton already defeated him.
