$30 million in improvements coming to Broncos' stadium

The SportsXchange

About $30 million in improvements are scheduled to be made to Sports Authority Field at Mile High in time for the 2013 season, according to the Denver Post.

The Denver Broncos are splitting the costs with the Metropolitan Football Stadium District, but it will not add any new taxes.

"Funds are paid into the account on a yearly basis and are used for stadium upgrades and renovations to prolong the life of the facility," Stadium District spokesman Matt Sugar said.

The team and the city of Denver submitted an application to bid on hosting the Super Bowl for the 2018, 2019 or 2020 season.

"It's not really tied to the Super Bowl bid," said Andy Gorchov, general manager of the stadium management company, which operates Sports Authority Field. "The potential year for a Super Bowl is pretty far down the road. This is more about a need to provide the best fan experience we can today and tomorrow."

Most of the money will be spent on updating the stadium's video boards. TV monitors in the concourses will also be replaced by HD flat screens and the audio system throughout the stadium will be upgraded.
