2013 Week 20 MLS Power Rankings

Yahoo Contributor Network

All indications are that it's going to be another Major League Soccer season in which the best teams come out of the Western Conference. KC still have something to prove before they crack into the list of the league's top-tier sides, and history teaches us that one impressive summertime New York win is no reason to plan for a parade down the streets of Harrison, NJ. DC can be happy about not losing over the weekend.

Sure, they didn't play, but United fans should really take whatever they can get at this point.

2013 Week 20 MLS power rankings

19. DC United (2-13-4): DC need more than a week off to fix their woes. They need a complete restart to 2013.

18. Toronto FC (2-9-7): I have no idea what's going on at TFC. Those fans deserve a lot better than what they've gotten.

17. Chivas USA (3-11-5): Perhaps a bit unlucky to lose at Philly because of a questionable call in the penalty area, but Chivas also didn't do themselves any favors in the second half of that contest. They're playing better as of late, but they've still got plenty of bad days ahead.

16. Chicago Fire (6-9-3): The 3-1 scoreline from Sunday's Vancouver vs. Chicago match flatters the Fire, who were thoroughly outplayed by the 'Caps. Mike Magee can only do so much, guys.

15. New England Revolution (6-6-6): Victims of a duo of Houston golazos and some shoddy refereeing, the Revs remain a team that's on the wrong side of the conference table

14. Columbus Crew (6-8-5): Gave the defending champs a game on the road. Beat Portland. Had a week off before a home match against New England and a contest at Toronto. Maybe things really are turning around for the Crew.

13. Seattle Sounders (7-7-3): It's once again time for a "I just don't get the Sounders" comment. They are the definition of a "games aren't played on paper" disappointment.

12. San Jose Earthquakes (6-9-6): SJ grabbing three points against Seattle and Wondo finding his form while on national team duty could be the jolt the 'Quakes need. They're still well within reach of a playoff spot with plenty of soccer left to be played.

11. Philadelphia Union (8-6-6): The weather was indeed terrible on Friday, and Chivas haven't been a complete disaster since the start of summer. With that said, Philly only get a slight bump in this week's power rankings after their most recent victory.

10. Colorado Rapids (7-7-6): Colorado fall in power rankings simply for not playing. They'll be in action twice this week.

9. FC Dallas (8-5-7): It seems like just yesterday that Dallas were atop MLS power rankings and true Supporters' Shield contenders. Now they're just four points off of sixth place. Yikes.

8. Montreal Impact (9-5-4): Nothing is going right for Montreal at the moment. Are they a little too confident, are they showing their age, or were they just punching above their weight earlier this season?

7. LA Galaxy (9-8-3): Say it again, everybody: "LA Galaxy will be fine."

6. Houston Dynamo (8-6-5): Take two bows, Adam Moffat. You've certainly earned the right after your goals against New England.

5. New York Red Bulls (9-7-4): The 4-0 result loses some of its luster once you accept the fact that Montreal essentially assisted the Red Bulls on each of those goals. New York needed to forget that July 4 debacle, though, and Saturday's trouncing of the Impact was a nice way to do so.

4. Sporting Kansas City (9-5-6): They're finding consistency, and they quite possibly have the most depth of any side in the MLS East. KC could be on the cusp of something special.

3. Portland Timbers (8-2-9): A stoppage time winner is a dramatic way to begin another unbeaten streak. The Timbers are the new Dynamo when it comes to not losing at home.

2. Vancouver Whitecaps (9-5-5): Camilo has turned into a legitimate MVP candidate, and the Whitecaps look like real title contenders. They've done well to put last season's collapse out of their memories.

1. Real Salt Lake (11-5-4): It is a crime that RSL continue to be ignored by non-fans. They're by far the best team in the league, and they are also showing zero signs of slowing down.
