The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 16, at New York's Citi Field, but the countdown to the event is already under way.
The T-Mobile All-Star FanFest began Friday, July 12, and continues through Tuesday, July 16. Manhattan's Javits Convention Center on Eleventh Avenue between 34th and 40th streets has been transformed into what MLB.com calls the "world's largest interactive baseball theme park."
Among the attractions are the All-Star Clubhouse, where fans can take in the uniforms of the All-Stars and engage in question-and-answer sessions with baseball legends and Hall of Famers.
There is also the All-Star Dugout and The Diamond, where clinics will be conducted by coaches, managers and past and current MLB stars.
The All-Star Video Game Zone will allow gaming enthusiasts to try for chance to play "MLB 13 The Show" on the field during the Home Run Derby, scheduled for Monday, July 15, at Citi Field.
There are also areas for memorabilia collectors, as well as batting cages, a pin trading center and a silent auction for limited-edition authentic baseball memorabilia will be conducted throughout the FanFest.
All-Star 5K and Fun Run
Brooklyn's Prospect Park will host the All-Star 5K and Fun Run on Saturday, July 13, with 100 percent of the race proceeds to be donated to Sandy Relief. There are still limited registrations available on race day at Prospect Park, but online registration for the run has closed.
The Great Lawn at Central Park will host Saturday night's All-Star Charity Concert to benefit Sandy Relief. The 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time concert is already sold out and will feature the New York Philharmonic with special guest Mariah Carey.
Futures Game/Legends & Celebrity Softball
The action shifts to Citi Field beginning Sunday, July 14, with Taco Bell All-Star Sunday. That includes the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, featuring minor league stars in a U.S. vs. the World format, and the Legends & Celebrity Softball Game.
The All-Stars themselves take center stage on Monday, July 15, with the All-Star Workout Day at Citi Field and the day's festivities conclude with the long-ball fireworks of the Chevrolet Home Run Derby.
David Wright of the host New York Mets is the captain of the National League squad for the Derby. He will be joined by Pedro Alvarez of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Michael Cuddyer of the Colorado Rockies.
Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees captains the American League side. Cano is joined by Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics, Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers and Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles, the current home-run leader in the majors.
The 84th MLB All-Star Game
Finally, the festivities come to a crescendo Tuesday, July 16, with the 84th MLB All-Star Game at Citi Field. The National League has won the last three All-Star Games, including last year's 8-0 victory at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The American League's last win came in 2009, a 4-3 victory at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
