In the 2012 World Series, the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers will face each other for the title of baseball's best team. Games will begin play on Wednesday, October 24 and could go all the way to Thursday, November 1 if the series lasts seven games. The Giants have home-field advantage due to the National League's victory in the All-Star Game.
The Giants came back from a 3-1 deficit against the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS by winning three straight elimination games, including a dominant 9-0 win in Game 7. Led by Marco Scutaro, Ryan Vogelsong and other key hitting and pitching performances, the Giants have shown great resiliency in this postseason and look to win their second World Series championship in three years.
The Tigers advanced to the World Series after sweeping the New York Yankees in the ALCS. Led by their dominant rotation of Justin Verlander, Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez and Max Scherzer, the Tigers will be a very good opposition for the Giants. Leading their charge on offense is Delmon Young, Prince Fielder and Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera.
