It is hard to believe that the 2012 NFL football season is already seven weeks in, but here we are. The games and the parity in the NFL is at an all time high. This has been one of the most unpredictable NFL football seasons in recent memory. Every week, I pick the NFL games and give some comments along the way. The picks are meant to be fun and laid back and not hard core betting material. This is just my particular take on the games and nothing more. In years past, I have always ended the season with a decent pick rate. The season is long and there are plenty of ups and downs. Week six was a major downer for me as I went 5-9 for the second time this season. In 2011, I suffered a similar situation but still ended up winning my league with a solid pick rate. The point?
Hang in there as things will come around in the end. Picking games is meant to be fun and the lows only make the highs that much better. Give me a hard time if you wish, because I often laugh at your jokes myself if they are good ones. This past week I deserve whatever I get.
Now on with the week seven picks and predictions:
THU, OCT 18
Seattle at San Francisco--Candlestick Park
There was a time not so long ago that this game would have been a joke. That was before Russell Wilson and that powerful Seattle Seahawks defense showed up. Now the Seahawks are looking more and more like they could end up being this years San Francisco 49ers team. That tough defense looks familiar. The big difference here is that San Francisco still has that running game. I expect that to be the difference along with the home crowd at Candlestick.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- San Francisco 49ers
SUN, OCT 21
Dallas at Carolina--Bank of America Stadium
The Carolina Panthers are reeling after a horrible start to the 2012 season. Cam Newton has not been himself and the injuries are starting to pile up as well with the loss of Ryan Kalil. Dallas, however, is facing some injury problems of their own with DeMarco Murray nursing a foot injury. The Cowboys just had a heartbreaking loss and the Panthers have had two weeks to prepare for the Boys on a bye week. I expect the Panthers to pull one out at home here.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Carolina Panthers
Tennessee at Buffalo--Ralph Wilson Stadium
Trying to figure this one out is tough because both teams make a case to be favored. I like what Matt Hasselbeck brings to the table for Tennessee and expect a big game historically from Chris Johnson, but I also love the offense in Buffalo. Tennessee is horrible on the road thus far in 2012 as well. That said, I am going to take the Titans on the road in an upset. I think Johnson will have a break out game and they will control the clock and keep Buffalo's offense off the field.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Tennessee Titans
Washington at NY Giants--MetLife Stadium
I am absolutely loving what Robert Griffin III is doing over in Washington, but I think the Giants are way too good right now. The Giants defense will contain Griffin and I don't think the Giants will have much trouble scoring. The Skins will play them tough, but lose in the end.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- NY Giants
New Orleans at Tampa Bay--Raymond James Stadium
This game is going to be fun because both of these teams have something going for them. The Saints are trying to actually build some momentum and can explode at any moment with Drew Brees as the helm. Tampa Bay looked fantastic in week six against Kansas City. Josh Freeman always lights up the Saints and the Bucs are also at home. I expect the Bucs to pull out a tough one at home.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Tampa Bay Bucs
Baltimore at Houston--Reliant Stadium
The Houston Texans laid a rotten egg against Green Bay and the Ravens lost three important starters on defense in week six. Needless to say, they are both coming in with some issues. I love the way the Ravens fight back against adversity in the past, however, and I expect that they will do just that in week seven.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Baltimore Ravens
Cleveland at Indianapolis--Lucas Oil Stadium
Yes, the Browns did win a football game in week six. They will not win again in week seven, however. Andrew Luck is too big of a competitor. Expect the Colts to roll in this one.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Indianapolis Colts
Green Bay at St. Louis--Edward Jones Dome
The Packers appear to be back after that huge win over the Texans and St. Louis struggled offensively in week six. I am afraid that the Rams will not have the horses to keep up this week. They certainly have the defense to hold the Packers to a reasonable score, but the Packers are going to score some points. The Rams are also undefeated at home in 2012, so some are predicting upset. I think the Rams will come up short in the end as the Packers are rolling.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Green Bay Packers
Arizona at Minnesota--Mall of America Field
This is one game that could go either way, but I just feel like Minnesota is ready to come back this week. I love the Minnesota Vikings at home anyway and the Cardinals are in a bit of a funk of late. Expect a good game that is won in the trenches by Minnesota.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Minnesota Vikings
NY Jets at New England--Gillette Stadium
New England has to be wondering what hit them after the shocking loss to the Seahawks in week six. They now face the hated Jets in what is sure to be a fight. New England has too much offense on the surface, but the Jets can run the football like crazy when they are on. I give this game to Brady and the Patriots primarily because they are very good at coming back after losses, and Brady is far better than anyone the Jets can put under center.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- New England Patriots
Jacksonville at Oakland--O.co Coliseum
This is a toss up game but I like Oakland at home.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Oakland Raiders
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati--Paul Brown Stadium
The Steelers face a must win against Cincinnati but they really faced one last week as well. Although the Bengals are a great young team, I feel that Pittsburgh will come up huge in this game and get their season back on track.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Pittsburgh Steelers
MON, OCT 22
Detroit at Chicago--Soldier Field
I absolutely love it when the Lions and Bears come out to play at Soldier Field. They hate each other and something about Soldier Field and the fans makes that hate increase ten fold. Expect a great game with plenty of offense but a solid performance by the Bears will take the game. Jay Cutler is due a great game and I think this will be the week if he can stay upright.
2012 Week Seven Winner -- Chicago Bears
