The 2012 The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex, also referred to as the Senior British Open, will be played at the Alisa Course at Turnberry Golf Course in Ayrshire, Scotland from Thursday, July 26 to Sunday, July 29. Television coverage of the event can be found on ESPN and there will at least eight hours of TV coverage over the four-day span.
Established in 1987, this event was designated as the fifth major championship on the Champions Tour with the U.S. Senior open, the Senior PGA Championship, The Players Championship, and the Tradition. The last time this championship was held at Turnberry Golf Club was in 2006. The 2006 tournament was won by American Loren Roberts with a winning score of 274 (-6).
The defending champion of the event is Russ Cochran, who won the event at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England with an overall score of -12. Day 1 will start with Angel Fernandez, Bobby Lincoln, and Barrie Stevens teeing off at 2:00 a.m. ET and end with Mitch Adcock, Eamonn Darcy, and Richard Kaplan at 10:40 a.m. ET. The purse for the event is $2 million.
