The 2012 Safeway Classic presented by Coca-Cola will be played on Ghost Creek Golf Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon from Friday, August 17 to Sunday, August 19. Television coverage of the event can be found on Golf Channel and there will at least 7.5 hours of TV coverage over the three-day span.
Established in 1972, this is the oldest continuous non-major event on the LPGA Tour. Starting as the Portland Classic, this tournament's proceeds are donated to local children's charities. In 2002, Annika Sorenstam set a tournament-record score of 199, -17 to par.
The defending champion of the event is Suzann Pettersen, who won the event with an overall score of -6. Day 1 will start with Moira Dunn, Christina Kim, Min Seo Kwak, Lee Lopez, Sydnee Michaels, and Alena Sharp teeing off at 10:15 a.m. ET and end with Sandra Changkija, Cindy LaCrosse, Jennie Lee, Leta Lindley, Jane Rah, and Alison Walshe at 5:16 p.m. ET. The purse for the event is $1.5 million with the winner receiving $225,000.
