The 2012 MLB season has come to a close leaving just 10 teams standing in their pursuit for a World Series victory. After Friday, October 5, the number will be reduced to eight as the new wild-card format goes into effect this season.
The two teams from each league that had the highest record without being division winners will battle it out for nine innings to determine who advances to their respective league divisional series.
