The 2012 John Deere Classic will be played at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois from Thursday, July 12 to Sunday, July 15. Television coverage of the event can be found on CBS and Golf Channel and there will at least 12 hours of TV coverage over the four-day span.
Established in 1971, this event originally began as the Quad Cities Open and was a "satellite event" sanctioned by the Chicago District Golf Association. After initial success, the tournament became an official PGA Tour event the following year in 1972. In the past, this event received major press and television air time by being the first to give Michelle Wie a sponsor's exemption to play in the tournament during the 2005 PGA Tour season. The defending champion of the event is Steve Stricker, who has won the event for three straight years. Stricker also set the course record with an overall score of -26 in 2010.
Day 1 will start with Bart Bryant, Marco Dawson, Matt Every, Mathias Gronberg, Lee Janzen, and Joey Snyder III teeing off at 8:00 a.m. EST and end with Gary Christian, Matt McQuillan, Garth Mulroy, John Peterson, Chad Proehl, and Brendon Todd at 3:15 p.m. EST. The purse for the event is $4.6 million.
