2012 Fantasy Football Week 9 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups: Fan’s Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

In Week 8 of the 2012 fantasy football season, Chicago Bears CB Tim Jennings, New York Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul and Indianapolis Colts LB Jerrell Freeman all had great individual performances. For Week 9, here are five IDPs likely available on the waiver wire who should be considered for use.

The following players are all owned in under 25% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues as of October 30, 2012.

LB Wesley Woodyard, Denver Broncos (at Cincinnati Bengals, 24% owned)

Statistics: 42 solo tackles, 19 assist tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble

Woodyard has been dominant for the Broncos all season and put an exclamation point on his season so far with 13 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. A must-own IDP option at this point of the season, he faces a Bengals defense that has been favorable to opposing linebackers. With excellent all-around production, Woodyard is a great add for the second half of the season.

S Stevie Brown, New York Giants (vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, 7% owned)

Statistics: 30 solo tackles, 4 assist tackles, 5 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries

With Kenny Phillips out of the lineup with a bad knee, Brown has stepped up and produced in his role. In the past four games, he has recorded 21 tackles and four interceptions, two of which came against Tony Romo last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Given the way he has made big plays this season, Brown is worth considering as a DB2 in most formats.

S Malcolm Jenkins, Philadelphia Eagles (vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 7% owned)

Statistics: 41 solo tackles, 14 assist tackles, 1 fumble recovery

One of the few solid defensive fantasy players from New Orleans, Jenkins has had a solid season thus far by averaging nearly eight tackles a game. While lacking in the big-play department, his reliable tackle numbers from the safety position can be a welcome addition to any team. Up against an Eagles offense that may reliant on LeSean McCoy and the run game given Michael Vick's struggles, Jenkins could come up with another solid outing in Week 9.

DE Michael Bennett, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Oakland Raiders, 6% owned)

Statistics: 14 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

Bennett had one of his best games of the season in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings with five tackles and a sack. Now at five sacks on the season, a career-high, he has been a good pass-rusher for Tampa Bay and has thrived in head coach Greg Schiano's defensive formation. While his total tackle numbers are low, Bennett's sack numbers this season could be enough to make him an asset in IDP formats.

LB Brad Jones, Green Bay Packers (vs. Arizona Cardinals, 1% owned)

Statistics: 11 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Jones had a breakout performance in Week 8 with 10 tackles and a sack against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With both Desmond Bishop and D.J. Smith out for the season, he has been thrust into the starting lineup and has so far produced. Now in an every-down role and playing alongside Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk, Jones could have a great chance at stopping opponents in-between the tackles, making him an excellent pickup in deeper leagues.

Other Week 9 IDP waiver wire adds of interest:

Buffalo Bills LB Nick Barnett (at Houston Texans, 21% owned)

Atlanta Falcons S Thomas DeCoud (vs. Dallas Cowboys, 17% owned)

Indianapolis Colts LB Pat Angerer (vs. Miami Dolphins, 7% owned)

Jacksonville Jaguars DE Jeremy Mincey (vs. Detroit Lions, 5% owned)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Da'Quan Bowers (at Oakland Raiders, 0% owned)
