2012 Fantasy Football Week 8 Ten Top-Scoring IDPs: Fan’s Review

Yahoo Contributor Network

IDPs in Week 8 of the NFL season had a great week of production. With 57 sacks, 20 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns, team defenses as a whole kept 13 teams to 20 points or less this week. With a huge pool of players to choose from in IDP leagues, here are the top 10 IDP scorers from Week 8.

10. S Michael Griffin, Tennessee Titans - 12.00

Week 8 statistics: 6 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble

Griffin had his second-best game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts after picking off Andrew Luck in the third quarter. While he's a major part of the Titans defense, his play has been too inconsistent this season to warrant ownership in most IDP formats.

8 (tied). LB Jerrell Freeman, Indianapolis Colts - 12.50

Week 8 statistics: 11 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles

On the other side of the Colts/Titans game, Freeman was a star for the Colts defense with 14 total tackles on the game. With a prominent, permanent role in the Colts defense, his high weekly tackle numbers make him worth owning in most IDP formats.

8 (tied). LB Brad Jones, Green Bay Packers - 12.50

Week 8 statistics: 7 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Playing in place of the injured D.J. Smith, Jones had an excellent outing in the Packers' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. If he continues to receive regular playing time at linebacker, he'll be a surprising option worth considering in deeper leagues.

6 (tied). LB Philip Wheeler, Oakland Raiders - 13.00

Week 8 statistics: 11 solo tackles, 1 sack

Wheeler continued to be a solid source of tackles this season with 11 solo tackles and a sack against the Kansas City Chiefs. Minus his uncharacteristic four-tackle performance against the Jaguars in Week 7, he averages 9.2 tackles a game, making him a very good fantasy option.

6 (tied). DE Charles Johnson, Carolina Panthers - 13.00

Week 8 statistics: 3 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

Johnson was very active on defense this week, as he reached the quarterback several times and was part of several important fumbles. While he put up good numbers this week, he lacks the consistency desired in an IDP.

5. DE Jason Pierre-Paul, New York Giants - 14.50

Week 8 statistics: 3 solo tackles, 1 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 touchdown

Another defensive end with a dominant showing was Pierre-Paul, who scored the Giants' second touchdown on an interception of a Tony Romo pass in the second quarter. Viewed as an elite IDP entering this season, this excellent showing could jumpstart his production for the rest of the season.

3 (tied). S Stevie Brown, New York Giants - 16.00

Week 8 statistics: 8 solo tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery

Brown, Pierre-Paul's teammate, was another major performer against the Cowboys in Week 8, as he had two interceptions and a fumble recovery along with his eight solo tackles. Filling in for the injured Kenny Phillips, the seventh-round pick has been an impressive player and could continue to hold fantasy value once he returns.

3 (tied). S Morgan Burnett, Green Bay Packers - 16.00

Week 8 statistics: 9 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery

Burnett continued serving as a consistent source of tackles with a team-high 11 tackles against the Jaguars. Continuing his production since his breakout season last year, he is an excellent DB2 due to his lack of forced turnovers or sacks.

2. LB Wesley Woodyard, Denver Broncos - 18.00

Week 8 statistics: 9 solo tackles, 4 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble

Woodyard was absolutely dominant against the New Orleans Saints this week. With his third straight double-digit tackle game and contributions in other stat categories, he has become an excellent IDP option.

1. CB Tim Jennings, Chicago Bears - 20.00

Week 8 statistics: 8 solo tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 touchdown

Jennings continued his excellent season picking off quarterbacks by intercepting Cam Newton twice. While his interception numbers this year are impressive, he'll need to continue tackling at a high rate to maintain his IDP status.

*Point totals determined through standard Yahoo! scoring structure; IDP scoring: Tackle solo - 1 point, Tackle assist - 0.5, Sack - 2, Interception - 3, Fumble Force - 2, Fumble Recovery - 2, Defensive Touchdown - 6, Safety - 2, Return touchdown - 6
