Week 8 of the 2012 fantasy football season will feature many intriguing storylines. From players working through injuries to players having breakout years, Week 8 will have some players with uncertain fantasy value. Here's a look at intriguing over/under predictions for each Week 8 contest.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Minnesota Vikings: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson over/under 12.5 fantasy points - OVER
In the Vikings' first seven games, Peterson has only scored 12.5 fantasy points in three games. Despite receiving rest for a tender ankle on a short week, he is a must-start against a Buccaneers defense that has allowed big numbers to running backs this season. Even if he's held out of the end zone, Peterson should have be a major part of the Vikings offense on Thursday night.
New England Patriots at St. Louis Rams: Patriots RB Stevan Ridley over/under 64.5 rushing yards - OVER
A peculiar play this year, Ridley is coming off back-to-back disappointing outings despite earning 33 carries. Still New England's clear No. 1 back, both teams will be in an unfamiliar territory in London, England. While St. Louis' defense has been solid, the neutral field and new environment could made the Patriots rely more on the running game.
Indianapolis Colts at Tennessee Titans: Titans QB Matt Hasselbeck over/under 225.5 total yards - UNDER
For another week, Hasselbeck will start for Jake Locker, who is still recovering from his shoulder injury. While he's been a solid replacement for Locker, Chris Johnson has done great in the past few weeks, which has limited Hasselbeck's importance. The Colts defense is beatable, but look for Johnson to serve as the Titans primary weapon on offense.
San Diego Chargers at Cleveland Browns: Browns RB Trent Richardson over/under 65.5 rushing yards - UNDER
Despite nursing sore ribs, Richardson played last week against the Colts and had just 19 total yards in the game. Despite looking good in practice this week, the Chargers present a touch matchup for the Browns running game. Still not 100%, Montario Hardesty could still share the role in this game, meaning owners should temper their expectations for Richardson.
Washington Redskins at Pittsburgh Steelers: Redskins TE Logan Paulsen over/under 4.5 receptions - OVER
With Fred Davis out for the rest of the season, Paulsen is now the team's starting tight end. Even with the team re-signing Chris Cooley, he will be the guy for a Robert Griffin III-run team that has often utilized the tight end. Paulsen could be in for a productive game in his new role.
Miami Dolphins at New York Jets: Dolphins RB Reggie Bush over/under 99.5 total yards - OVER
Prior to the Week 7 bye, Bush had his worst week of the season against the Rams with just 61 total yards. In the first matchup of the season against the Jets, Bush only had 62 total yards. Despite having some struggles in the first game between these two teams, Bush is coming off a bye week, closer to 100% healthy and facing one of the weaker defenses in the league against running backs, making a big game by Bush in the realm of possibility.
Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions: Lions WR Titus Young over/under 70.5 receiving yards - UNDER
With Nate Burleson out for the season with a broken leg, Young comes into the starting lineup for the Lions. A major disappointment this season, the draft sleeper has just two good games this season. While this injury will help his stock and make him a bigger part of the offense, the Seahawks secondary is very good and will be a tough matchup for Young this week.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Green Bay Packers: Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings over/under 99.5 total yards - OVER
Jennings takes the start this week with Maurice Jones-Drew out with a sprained foot. This game presents an excellent opportunity for the Jaguars running game, as the Packers defense can be run on easily and often. Given the Jaguars' struggles in the passing game, look for Jennings to receive a large number of carries and serve as a top fantasy option this week.
Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears: Panthers QB Cam Newton over/under 199.5 passing yards - UNDER
Newton has not looked like the same dynamic quarterback from his rookie season. Now up against a dominant Bears defense, Newton may try to run the ball more often as the Bears secondary locks out the Panthers receivers. Given the matchup and his struggles on offense, the previous must-start option is not a worthy starter this week.
Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles: Falcons QB Matt Ryan over/under 2.5 passing touchdowns - UNDER
The Falcons are undefeated and Ryan's numbers have declined as the season progresses. After throwing three touchdown passes in three of the first four games of the season, he has just three touchdowns in the team's last two games that have been closer victories than expected. Up against a good Eagles secondary, this game may be one where Michael Turner and Jacquizz Rodgers take over.
Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs: Chiefs RB Darren McFadden over/under 99.5 total yards - OVER
McFadden and the Raiders running game have struggled this season. With just one 100-yard rushing game, he faces a Chiefs defense that has struggled against opposing running backs. Despite the struggles this season, McFadden should flourish now that the Raiders are not relying just on zone-blocking.
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys: Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw over/under 74.5 rushing yards - UNDER
Despite much success this season, Bradshaw has sat out practice for much of this week. With just 12 carries last week and uncertainty for this week, he could still potentially miss this game. If he does start, his carries may be limited in favor of Andre Brown and David Wilson, making him a RB2 at best this week.
New Orleans Saints at Denver Broncos: Broncos QB Peyton Manning over/under 299.5 passing yards - OVER
Manning is viewed as the top fantasy quarterback this week because of his matchup against the struggling Saints. Heating up in production, there is no reason not to believe that he will put up big numbers this week. Three-hundred yards should be an easily-attainable number for Manning this week.
San Francisco 49ers at Arizona Cardinals: Cardinals RB LaRod Stephens-Howling over/under 54.5 rushing yards - UNDER
Stephens-Howling had a breakout game last week against the Vikings with 149 total yards and his second touchdown of the season. Up against the 49ers' stout run defense on Monday night, he'll have a much tougher test in Week 8. While he'll likely get a good number of carries, William Powell is still on the team and could cut into his opportunities against a defense with excellent tackling.
