2012 Fantasy Football Week 6 Underrated Starters: Fan’s Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

Making decisions on who to start every week is one of the most difficult aspects of playing fantasy football. In Week 6, there are decisions that need to be made in order to put up the best possible starting lineup. Here's a look at some players at each position with great Week 6 situations and should be considered for starting in more leagues*.

QB Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts (at New York Jets, 87% owned, 40% started*)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 9

Luck was phenomenal last week in the Colts' upset victory over the Green Bay Packers. While the Jets defense is a slightly tougher test than the Packers, they are still without Darrelle Revis and has made good decisions throughout the season. If Reggie Wayne can take advantage of his matchup with Antonio Cromartie, Luck could be in for another big fantasy output.

Week 5 Underrated QB: Baltimore Ravens' Joe Flacco - 13-for-27, 187 passing yards, 1 interception, 14 rushing yards

Honorable Mentions: Cincinnati Bengals' Andy Dalton (at Cleveland Browns, 76% owned, 36% started) and Minnesota Vikings' Christian Ponder (at Washington Redskins, 38% owned, 20% started)

RB Mikel LeShoure, Detroit Lions (at Philadelphia Eagles, 73% owned, 29% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 19

LeShoure disappointed owners in Week 4 against the Vikings with only 26 rushing yards on 13 carries. After a bye week, he has had one good game and one bad game in his NFL career. Although a risky play, LeShoure is still the best back in Detroit and will need to show his steadiness in order to serve as a decent flex play this week.

Week 5 Underrated RB: Chicago Bears' Michael Bush - 26 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 26 receiving yards

Honorable Mentions: Indianapolis Colts' Vick Ballard (at New York Jets, 37% owned, 21% started) and Arizona Cardinals' William Powell (vs. Buffalo Bills, 28% owned, 14% started)

WR Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals (vs. Buffalo Bills, 65% owned, 34% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 26

One of the solid surprises at wide receiver this season, Roberts gets a favorable matchup at home against the Bills in Week 6. With already four touchdowns on the season, he has averaged over 10 fantasy points a game this season. With injuries to the running game, the Cardinals will be passing often and Roberts will be open with the defense focusing on Larry Fitzgerald.

Week 5 Underrated WR: Green Bay Packers' James Jones - 4 receptions, 46 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns

Honorable Mentions: New York Giants' Hakeem Nicks (at San Francisco 49ers, 98% owned, 42% started) and Cincinnati Bengals' Andrew Hawkins (at Cleveland Browns, 54% owned, 24% started)

TE Fred Davis, Washington Redskins (vs. Minnesota Vikings, 75% owned, 47% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 6

After five weeks, Davis is the top receiving option for Robert Griffin III, as he leads the team in receptions (20) and receiving yards (266). After only four catches for 52 yards in his first two games, he has become a bigger target in the passing game. Up against a Vikings defense that has been beat through the air at times, Davis could get his first touchdown of the season this week.

Week 5 Underrated TE: Minnesota Vikings' Kyle Rudolph - 4 receptions, 23 receiving yards, 1 touchdown

Honorable Mentions: Minnesota Vikings' Kyle Rudolph (at Washington Redskins, 72% owned, 49% started) and Baltimore Ravens' Dennis Pitta (vs. Dallas Cowboys, 56% owned, 32% started)

K Shayne Graham (vs. Green Bay Packers, 32% owned, 30% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 3

Graham is listed as probable this week on the injury report with a calf injury. It should not be an issue for him in Week 6 against the Packers in what could be a high-scoring matchup. Excellent this season, Graham is an excellent fantasy option to consider for this week.

Week 5 Underrated K: Minnesota Vikings' Blair Walsh - 3-for-3 FGs (42, 36, 26), 3 PAT made

Honorable Mentions: Cleveland Browns' Phil Dawson (vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 21% owned, 19% started) and Philadelphia Eagles' Alex Henery (vs. Detroit Lions, 38% owned, 31% started)

Miami Dolphins team defense (vs. St. Louis Rams, 33% owned, 29% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 6

The Rams have been one of the worst offenses in the league, which can only be a good sign for the Dolphins team defense. Now without Danny Amendola who is out with a shoulder injury, the Rams have even fewer reliable targets in the passing game. The Dolphins have a strong run defense and could hold their own as a defensive unit and shut down the entire Rams offense.

Week 5 Underrated DEF: Pittsburgh Steelers team defense - 14 points allowed, 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries

Honorable Mentions: Tampa Bay team defense (vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 18% owned, 14% started) and Detroit Lions team defense (at Philadelphia Eagles, 29% owned, 10% started)
