Week 6 of the 2012 NFL season featured big games by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw, and New York Jets running back Shonn Greene. With 12 games played on Sunday, October 14, here's a look at the most surprising fantasy performers from each Week 6 game on Sunday.
Dallas Cowboys at Baltimore Ravens
Cowboys RB Felix Jones - 18 carries, 92 rushing yards, 1 reception, 13 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
Jones had his first opportunity at extended carries this week when DeMarco Murray missed part of the game with a sprained foot. After scoring his first touchdown of the season, Jones looked good all game and could be a major factor in fantasy leagues in Week 7 if Murray is unavailable to play next week.
St. Louis Rams at Miami Dolphins
Rams RB Daryl Richardson - 11 carries, 76 rushing yards, 2 receptions, 23 receiving yards
Essentially splitting time with starter Steven Jackson in this game, Richardson only had one less carry than the star running back. With Jackson likely leaving the team at the end of the season, Richardson is receiving plenty of opportunities in his rookie season. While it's uncertain as to whether this time-share continues, he will be a popular waiver wire add for Week 7.
Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles
Lions TE Tony Scheffler - 3 receptions, 81 receiving yards
Only behind Calvin Johnson in production for the Lions, Scheffler had a break out game against the Eagles. Outperforming other tight end Brandon Pettigrew, he is not a big part of the team's passing game and is an unlikely consistent performer.
Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns
Browns RB Montario Hardesty - 15 carries, 56 rushing yards, 1 reception, 9 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
Hardesty took over for the Browns at running back once Trent Richardson left the game with a rib injury. Activated for the first time in four weeks, this additional playing time was a surprise for a player who accumulated zero stats prior to this game. Richardson is expected to play in Week 7, so Hardesty will return to his reserve role.
Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets
Jets RB Shonn Greene - 32 carries, 161 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns
After doing little in the past four games, Greene had an extremely good game against the Colts. With a ton of carries and an improbable three touchdowns, he rushed with confidence against a beatable Colts run defense. Owners over the past few weeks had started to drop Greene, but he'll certainly be re-added in leagues after this career performance.
Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman - 15-for-26, 328 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 3 carries, 5 rushing yards
Coming off a Week 5 bye, Freeman was in need of a good performance. Getting help in the form of several big plays to Mike Williams and Tiquan Underwood, he had a nice stat line this week despite only 15 completions. When the Buccaneers face the New Orleans Saints next week, Freeman could be a nice one-week replacement.
Oakland Raiders at Atlanta Falcons
Falcons QB Matt Ryan - 24-for-37, 249 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 3 interceptions, 1 carry, 15 rushing yards
While the Falcons still earned the last-second win to stay undefeated, Ryan had an uncharacteristically-poor outing. Facing a Raiders defense that had several injuries in their secondary, he had an unexpected performance where he threw three interceptions. While this is the first poor outing of the season, he'll likely be back on track as an elite fantasy option after Atlanta's Week 7 bye.
New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson - 16-for-27, 293 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 5 carries, 17 rushing yards, 1 fumble lost
The Seahawks pulled off an upset over the Patriots thanks to Wilson's best performance of his career. With a career-high 293 passing yards and several long scoring strikes to Doug Baldwin, Braylon Edwards, and Sidney Rice, he has displayed great arm strength and has looked more impressive as a passer. An improving receiver since his first career starts, Wilson is starting to become a useful fantasy quarterback.
Buffalo Bills at Arizona Cardinals
Bills RB C.J. Spiller - 12 carries, 88 rushing yards, 4 receptions, 22 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
With Spiller and Fred Jackson both fully back from injuries, it was Spiller who had the better game against the Cardinals. As the passing game struggled, Spiller had a bounce back performance and bested Jackson as the two split carries. If he continues to receive a healthy number of carries, Spiller could be active in most fantasy leagues.
Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins
Vikings WR Michael Jenkins - 6 receptions, 67 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
In the Vikings' attempted comeback in the second half, Jenkins scored one of the two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. His first touchdown of the season, he was one of the main contributors of the day along with Christian Ponder, Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson, and Kyle Rudolph. With Jerome Simpson still not providing much for Minnesota, Jenkins could continue being a nice low-end fantasy option.
New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers
Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw - 27 carries, 116 rushing yards, 1 reception, 4 receiving yards, 1 touchdown
Instead of Eli Manning being the team's main focus on offense, Bradshaw was able to penetrate a typically-impenetrable 49ers run defense for another great game. Coming into this game, the 49ers had not allowed 100 rushing yards to a running back since 2008. Healthier and productive, Bradshaw's value has certainly elevated after defeating one of the league's top run defenses.
Green Bay Packers at Houston Texans
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers - 24-for-37, 338 passing yards, 6 passing touchdowns, 2 carries, 17 rushing yards
Despite being one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, Rodgers was expected to have a tough time against a very good Texans defense. Instead, he absolutely exploited Houston with a career-high six touchdown passes. Even without Cedric Benson and Greg Jennings, Rodgers showcased his elite abilities against a previously-undefeated team.
