Week 6 of the 2012 fantasy football season will feature many intriguing storylines. From players working through injuries to some rookies starting off this season well, Week 6 will have some players with uncertain fantasy value. Here's a look at intriguing over/under predictions for each Week 6 contest.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans: RB Rashard Mendenhall over/under 0.5 touchdowns - OVER
Mendenhall was excellent in his season debut with 101 total yards and one touchdown. Up against an inept Titans run defense, he has a great matchup in Week 6 and will also benefit from any success Ben Roethlisberger has in the passing game. Given how he has already risen to fantasy starter status, Mendenhall is a great candidate for scoring once again.
Dallas Cowboys at Baltimore Ravens: RB Ray Rice over/under 99.5 total yards - OVER
Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, Rice had 118 total yards in a game that featured no touchdowns. With at least 100 total yards in three of the five first games of the season, he has been a dynamic runner and pass catcher for the Ravens this season. With the Cowboys defense featuring a very tough pass defense, the Ravens will likely focus more on their running game, meaning Rice should have plenty of touches to pass the century mark in total yards.
St. Louis Rams at Miami Dolphins: QB Sam Bradford over/under 220.5 passing yards - UNDER
Bradford's season got a lot tougher with the major injury to main target Danny Amendola. Now with even fewer proven wide receiver options, Bradford, who only averages 16.8 completions a game, could struggle to pick up yards against an underrated Dolphins defense.
Detroit Lions at Philadelphia Eagles: QB Matthew Stafford over/under 1.5 passing touchdowns - UNDER
With only three passing touchdowns on the season, Stafford has been one of the many disappointments on the Lions. Coming off a bye week, Detroit should be well prepared against an Eagles team that went through a tough battle against the Steelers in Week 5. While his is primed for a big game, this week will probably not be, for he goes against a strong pass defense and a team that can cover Calvin Johnson well.
Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns: QB Andy Dalton over/under 299.5 passing yards - OVER
The Browns secondary has been struggling all season. While they may be receiving Joe Haden back from suspension this week, Dalton should have no trouble finding open receivers and having a big game. With 318 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Browns in Week 2, Dalton could very easily pass the 300-yard passing mark once again.
Indianapolis Colts at New York Jets: RB Vick Ballard over/under 41.5 rushing yards - OVER
A fifth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State, Ballard only have 42 rushing yards in four games this season. Obtaining the starting spot for the time being with Donald Brown out, he will see the majority of snaps for the Colts. While it's uncertain as to how much the Colts will rely on Andrew Luck and the passing game, Ballard should get a nice number of carries and at least double his season rushing yards total.
Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Brady Quinn over/under 199.5 passing yards - OVER
Due to Matt Cassel's injury, Quinn is scheduled to have his first start of the season against the Buccaneers. While the Chiefs have relied more on their running game this season, Quinn could have a nice output against Tampa Bay, the team that has allowed the most passing yards per game this season (345.3). With a good Week 6 opportunity, he could be a surprising performer at quarterback this week.
Oakland Raiders at Atlanta Falcons: TE Tony Gonzalez over/under 99.5 receiving yards - UNDER
Despite being one of the oldest tight ends in the league, Gonzalez has been one of the best and most productive tight ends in the league. Playing in Atlanta's excellent passing attack, he has been the recipient of many passes and looks in the red zone. While he is one of the top-ranked tight ends for Week 6 play, Gonzalez could be the focus of the Raiders defensive plans and may be overlooked a little in favor of Roddy White and Julio Jones.
New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks: TE Aaron Hernandez over/under 2.5 receptions - UNDER
Hernandez has been on the practice field this week and is potentially available to play in his first game in four weeks. While it's still uncertain as to if he does or does not play against the Seahawks, owners should look to other tight ends this week before considering Hernandez as a viable starter again.
Buffalo Bills at Arizona Cardinals: RB William Powell over/under 9.5 carries - UNDER
When Ryan Williams went down with a season-ending shoulder injury, the Cardinals were left with Powell, LaRod Stephens-Howling and Alfonso Smith in the backfield. With Powell or Stephens-Howling could be the primary back in Arizona against the Bills, it will likely turn out being a split backfield until someone emerges. If Stephens-Howling is ready for Week 6, Powell will possibly have a tough time cracking double-digit carries this week.
Minnesota Vikings at Washington Redskins: TE Kyle Rudolph over/under 0.5 touchdowns - OVER
The Redskins defense has struggled this year, particularly against opposing tight ends. When the Vikings faced the Redskins last season, Rudolph had a 17-yard touchdown catch in Week 16. With a favorable matchup this week, Rudolph will be looking for his fifth touchdown grab of the season.
New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers: QB Alex Smith over/under 249.5 passing yards - UNDER
Smith had a great Week 5 with a season-high 303 passing yards and career-tying three passing touchdowns against the Bills. With a big rematch against the Giants, Smith enters the game with a sprained middle finger on his throwing hand. While coach Jim Harbaugh says this will not be an issue, the 49ers could rely more on their very-effective running game in this matchup, thus limiting the work Smith has to do in this game.
Green Bay Packers at Houston Texans: RB Alex Green over/under 70.5 rushing yards - UNDER
While Arizona had a big injury to their starting running back, Green Bay also suffered a major injury with Cedric Benson going down for at least eight weeks. Green, not James Starks, is first up in the starting role, but will face a very stout Texans run defense. While Green could be an asset in future weeks, Week 6 will likely not be a great scenario for him or the rest of the Packers running game.
Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers: QB Peyton Manning over/under 2.5 passing touchdowns - OVER
In another primetime game, Manning and the Broncos face a division rival in the Chargers. In Week 5, the Chargers gave up a four-touchdown performance by Drew Brees that sent him into the record books. Manning will look to have a similar performance against a Chargers team that has given him problems throughout his career (12 touchdowns, 16 interceptions in his career against San Diego).
