Week 5 of the 2012 fantasy football season will feature many intriguing storylines. From players working through injuries to some rookies starting off this season well, Week 5 will have some players with uncertain fantasy value. Here's a look at intriguing over/under predictions for each Week 5 contest.
Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams: WR Andre Roberts over/under 0.5 touchdowns - UNDER
After four weeks, Roberts, not Larry Fitzgerald, is the wide receiver leading the league in touchdown grabs with four. While the Cardinals offense has been effective, they face a solid Rams pass defense that features Courtland Finnegan, Janoris Jenkins, and Quintin Mikell. Regardless of who's defending him, he may have a hard time finding the end zone in Week 5.
Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs: QB Joe Flacco over/under 1.5 passing touchdowns - OVER
Flacco has been on a great start for the Ravens. With growing chemistry with Torrey Smith and Dennis Pitta, the pass game has balanced well with the run game featuring Ray Rice. The Chiefs have given up two or more passing touchdowns to each quarterback they've faced and it could be no different with Flacco.
Miami Dolphins at Cincinnati Bengals: WR Brian Hartline over/under 8.5 receptions - OVER
The big breakout star of Week 4, Hartline was targeted by Ryan Tannehill an incredible 19 times in Week 4. While Davone Bess commands a good number of targets as well, Hartline has elevated himself to start-able status and should not be a one-week flash in the pan against the Bengals.
Cleveland Browns at New York Giants: WR Domenik Hixon over/under 74.5 receiving yards - OVER
After a career-best 114 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles, Hixon had a great performance as the starter opposite of Victor Cruz in place of Hakeem Nicks. While Nicks' status for Week 5 has yet to be determined, Hixon could be a big contributor against the Browns regardless of his role, for Cleveland is still without top cornerback Joe Haden. This could mean another big game for Eli Manning and Hixon.
Green Bay Packers at Indianapolis Colts: QB Aaron Rodgers over/under 2.5 touchdowns - OVER
After facing three tough defenses to start the season, Rodgers finally had a big game with a season-high 319 passing yards and four touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints. Facing a Colts defense in Week 5 that is closer to the Saints' abilities than the teams he struggled against, he should be in line for another top performance.
Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers: RB Rashard Mendenhall over/under 64.5 rushing yards - UNDER
Since the start of the regular season, Mendenhall has projected a Week 5 return for the Steelers. While he'll have a knee strength test to determine whether he can play against the Eagles, he should play this week. Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer will likely have a solid part in the offense until he returns back to speed, thus limiting Mendenhall's carries and rushing yards.
Atlanta Falcons at Washington Redskins: WR Julio Jones over/under 99.5 receiving yards - UNDER
In four games, Jones and Roddy White have alternated weeks in terms of who is the better fantasy performer. After scoring touchdowns in Weeks 1 and 3, Jones would be next in line for a big week after White's huge performance in Week 4. However, in Week 4's game against the Carolina Panthers, Jones hurt his hand on the first play of the game and is still not 100 percent, which could have a hand at his performance in Week 5.
Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers: TE Greg Olsen over/under 0.5 touchdown - OVER
For the second week in a row, Olsen surpassed the 85-yard mark and scored his first touchdown of the season. Cam Newton's favorite targeted for shorter passing plays, he leads the Panthers in targets, catches, and receiving yards and could be a big play down the middle of the field against a Seattle secondary that could shut down Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell.
Chicago Bears at Jacksonville Jaguars: WR Brandon Marshall over/under 89.5 receiving yards - OVER
After struggling the last two weeks, Marshall got on track as a top wide receiver with his best performance of the season against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. Next he faces a Jaguars team that has played poorly against the pass this season. Marshall's third 100-yard outing is certainly doable.
Tennessee Titans at Minnesota Vikings: QB Matt Hasselbeck over/under 234.5 passing yards - UNDER
After Jake Locker left the game in Week 4, Hasselbeck got his second action of the season for Tennessee. With Hasselbeck likely getting the start against Minnesota, he'll have a tough matchup against a strong Vikings defense that will put plenty of pressure on him. Also factor in Chris Johnson's possible resurgence and Hasselbeck could have little value as a fantasy option in Week 5.
Buffalo Bills at San Francisco 49ers: San Francisco team defense over/under 16.5 points allowed - UNDER
The 49ers defense absolutely demolished the New York Jets offense in Week 4. While the Bills offense has been more successful this year with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and tight end Scott Chandler having good seasons, San Francisco's return to home and dominance in all aspects on defense could be too much for a Bills offense that is waiting for the full returns of Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.
Denver Broncos at New England Patriots: RB Brandon Bolden over/under 64.5 total yards - UNDER
Bolden was another surprising breakout player from Week 4. With 137 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown, he made a name for himself as someone who could share significant carries with starter Stevan Ridley. However, he is still unproven and with additional competition from Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen for playing time, Bolden may have a hard time replicating this performance anytime soon.
San Diego Chargers at New Orleans Saints: QB Drew Brees over/under 0.5 passing touchdowns - OVER
Obviously, this is a low standard for Brees compared to what he has accomplished throughout his career. However, he is currently tied with Johnny Unitas for the all-time mark of throwing a touchdown in 47 straight regular-season games. With the record just one game away from beating, Brees should have little difficulty recording another passing touchdown against the Chargers.
Houston Texans at New York Jets: QB Tim Tebow over/under 24.5 all-purpose yards - OVER
People are calling for him, but will his role change on the team? While still the backup behind Mark Sanchez, a slow start by the quarterback could give Tebow more plays in this game than any other game this year. With Santonio Holmes out and few reliable passing options left, the Jets will have more success running the ball, meaning Tebow could receive more carries in Week 5.
