2012 Fantasy Football Week 3 IDP Waiver Wire Pickups: Fan’s Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

In Week 2 of the 2012 fantasy football season, Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews, Tennessee Titans S Michael Griffin, and Arizona Cardinals DE Calais Campbell all had great individual performances. For Week 3, here are five IDPs likely available on the waiver wire who should be considered for use.

The following players are all owned in under 25% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues as of September 23, 2012.

LB Mason Foster, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Dallas Cowboys, 21% owned)

Statistics: 18 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 1 interception

Foster has led the Buccaneers in solo tackles for the first two games of the season, obviously highlighting his role in the defense. After a solid rookie season, Foster looks to be on track for a breakout season filled with high-tackle performances. Regardless of how the Cowboys attack the Buccaneers defense, expect Foster to leave his mark in the game.

DE Cameron Jordan, New Orleans Saints (vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 7% owned)

Statistics: 8 solo tackles, 7 assist tackles, 1 sack

With already 15 tackles this season, Jordan is almost past his halfway point in 2011 tackles. With the Saints defense viewed as worse than last season, he'll likely be on the field more and get more opportunities to rack up tackles and sacks. Facing a Chiefs offense that could rely on the three-headed group of Jamaal Charles, Peyton Hillis, and Shaun Draughn, Jordan could have a nice Week 3 output as a DL2.

LB Will Witherspoon, Tennessee Titans (vs. Detroit Lions, 3% owned)

Statistics: 7 solo tackles, 7 assist tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

With Colin McCarthy hurt, Withersppon has been one of the many Titan linebackers to take advantage of this opportunity. As the team's middle linebacker for the next couple of weeks, Witherspoon could rack up a nice number of tackles against a Lions offense welcoming Mikel LeShoure to the mix. View him as a solid LB2 in Week 3.

CB William Gay, Arizona Cardinals (vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 2% owned)

Statistics: 10 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles, 1 forced fumble

A solid tackler for the Cardinals this season, Gay could be a nice play in Week 3 as the Eagles look to avoid Patrick Peterson, Arizona's other starting cornerback. As Michael Vick throws away from Peterson's direction, Gay could be the beneficiary of a lot of tackle opportunities. Particularly with this week's matchup, Gay could be a surprising commodity against the Eagles.

S Madieu Williams, Washington Redskins (vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 0% owned)

Statistics: 12 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle

Thanks to a Brandon Meriweather injury, Williams has stepped in and claimed the starting strong safety position. With a nice number of tackles to start the season, Williams plays for a Redskins defense that has historically provided great numbers for the safety positions. Staying under the radar so far this season, he is worth a look as a DB2.

Other Week 3 IDP waiver wire adds of interest: Chicago Bears' DT Henry Melton (vs. St. Louis Rams, 15% owned), Pittsburgh Steelers S Ryan Clark (at Oakland Raiders, 6% owned), Atlanta Falcons S Thomas DeCoud (at San Diego Chargers, 5% owned), Tennessee Titans LB Akeem Ayers (vs. Detroit Lions, 3% owned), Jacksonville Jaguars LB Russell Allen (at Indianapolis Colts, 2% owned)
