2012 Fantasy Football Underrated Starters for Week 4: Fan’s Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

Making decisions on who to start every week is one of the most difficult aspects of playing fantasy football. In Week 4, there are decisions that need to be made in order to put up the best possible starting lineup. Here's a look at some players at each position with great Week 4 situations and should be considered for starting in more leagues*.

QB Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers (at Kansas City Chiefs, 92% owned, 47% started*)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 9

Rivers had a rough start against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 where he was held to 173 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He'll look for redemption against the Chiefs in Week 4, a team that is much less stingy than Atlanta and has allowed eight passing touchdowns this season. With a favorable matchup and beatable defense, Rivers could have his best game of the season in Kansas City.

Week 3 Underrated QB: Ben Roethlisberger - 36-for-49, 384 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 8 rushing yards

Honorable Mentions: Minnesota Vikings' Christian Ponder (at Detroit Lions, 25% owned, 9% started) and Buffalo Bills' Ryan Fitzpatrick (vs. New England Patriots, 46% owned, 13% started)

RB Cedric Benson, Green Bay Packers (vs. New Orleans Saints, 78% owned, 40% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 10

After a slow start against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, Benson has quickly found his role with the Packers. With the Packers trying to dedicate to their run game in order to benefit their passing game, he found the end zone for the first time last season and will have a great opportunity to repeat against the dreadful Saints defense. Allowing 215 yards on the ground per game, the Saints defense is the perfect matchup for Benson.

Week 3 Underrated RB: New Orleans Saints' Pierre Thomas - 11 rushing yards, 4 receptions, 55 receiving yards

Honorable Mentions: Denver Broncos' Willis McGahee (vs. Oakland Raiders, 92% owned, 47% started) and Buffalo Bills' Fred Jackson (vs. New England Patriots, 90% owned, 29% started)

WR Michael Crabtree, San Francisco 49ers (at New York Jets, 77% owned, 37% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 27

Despite serving as the 49ers' number one receiver, Crabtree has yet to find the end zone for a touchdown. A possession receiver with solid numbers so far this season, he'll definitely benefit from the absence of Jets cornerback Darelle Revis. Even with Antonio Cromartie's presence, the Revis injury is big and could free up Crabtree for his first breakout game of season.

Week 3 Underrated WR: St. Louis Rams' Danny Amendola - 5 receptions, 66 receiving yards

Honorable Mentions: New Orleans Saints' Lance Moore (at Green Bay Packers, 82% owned, 46% started) and Washington Redskins' Leonard Hankerson (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 10% owned, 4% started)

TE Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings (at Detroit Lions, 59% owned, 33% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 7

A major red zone target with great chemistry with his quarterback, Rudolph faces a Lions defense against tight ends has been bad thing year. With three touchdowns on the year, he has grown immensely from his rookie year and has looked like a top fantasy option at his position like Adrian Peterson at running back and Percy Harvin at wide receiver. Rudolph should definitely be started in nearly all leagues given his production this season and his opportunity for points and many targets.

Week 3 Underrated TE: Philadelphia Eagles' Brent Celek - 2 receptions, 36 receiving yards

Honorable Mentions: Houston Texans' Owen Daniels (vs. Tennessee Titans, 70% owned, 32% started) and Washington Redskins' Fred Davis (at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 72% owned, 38% started)

K Shayne Graham, Houston Texans (vs. Tennessee Titans, 12% owned, 11% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 6

One of the most consistent kickers this season, Graham not getting enough credit on one of the few undefeated teams left in the NFL. With a nice number of points in every week so far, he'll have a great opportunity to make plenty of points in Week 4 against a good matchup in the Titans. While many of his scores may be extra points, Graham is a solid play who plays for a Texans offense primed to score big against the Titans.

Week 3 Underrated K: Baltimore Ravens' Justin Tucker - 1-for-1 FGs (27), 4 PAT made

Honorable Mentions: Denver Broncos' Matt Prater (vs. Oakland Raiders, 51% owned, 43% started) and Minnesota Vikings' Blair Walsh (at Detroit Lions, 14% owned, 13% started)

Dallas Cowboys team defense (vs. Chicago Bears, 38% owned, 26% started)

Yahoo! Sports Staff Composite Ranking: 6

An underwhelming fantasy option after three weeks, the Cowboys defense gets a nice matchup in Week 4 against a struggling Bears offense. With Jay Cutler having little success due to offensive line troubles and Matt Forte possibly out for a straight week, the Cowboys should be in line for many sacks and a couple turnover opportunities.

Week 3 Underrated DEF: Buffalo Bills team defense - 14 points allowed, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions

Honorable Mentions: Atlanta Falcons team defense (vs. Carolina Panthers, 61% owned, 49% started) and New York Jets team defense (vs. San Francisco 49ers, 75% owned, 48% started)
