The 2012 BMW Masters will be played at Lake Malaren Golf Club in Luodian, Shanghai, China from Thursday, October 25 to Sunday, October 28. Television coverage of the event in the United States can be found on Golf Channel and there will at least 16 hours of TV coverage over the four-day span.
Established in 2011, this will be the first year for this event as a part of the European Tour. Previously called the Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters in its first year, this tournament is known for having one of the largest purses in golf. Previously a tournament featuring the top 30 golfers from the European Tour and the Asian Tour, the event now features 78 players.
The defending champion of the event is Rory McIlroy, who won the event with a score of -18 in a playoff against Anthony Kim. Day 1 will start with Simon Khan, Shaun Micheel and Sang-hyun Park teeing off at 6:50 p.m. ET and end with Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood at 11:20 p.m. ET. The purse for the event is $7,000,000 with the winner earning 888,560 Euro.
