Brad Keselowski's win at the 2012 AAA 400 has allowed him to take first place in the current Sprint Cup standings. He has displaced Jimmie Johnson who has fallen to second place with 2137 points. The race at the Dover International Speedway has changed the Chase standings with fuel mileage playing a large role.
Brad Keselowski Wins at the 2012 AAA 400
Brad Keselowski added another win to his season total on Sept. 30 at the Dover International Speedway. The driver is currently the leader in the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings with 2142 points. Keselowski's fifth win of the 2012 NASCAR season has helped him displace Jimmie Johnson on the leaderboard. He has admitted that his fuel strategy at the AAA 400 played a large part in his ability to win the race.
Jimmie Johnson has Problems
Jimmie Johnson has fallen 5 points behind Brad Keselowski and currently occupies second place in the Chase standings. Johnson was able to lead 43 laps at the AAA 400 on Sept. 30, but his fuel strategy failed, and he finished in fourth place. The driver has previously admitted to having this problem, "I get the worst fuel mileage out of anybody, I don't know why."
Denny Hamlin is Frustrated
Denny Hamlin is in third place in the Sprint Cup standings after ending the AAA 400 in eighth place. Hamlin's fuel mileage issues forced him to pit and essentially cost him a lap. After the Dover International Speedway race, he explained his frustration, "We choose to have the horsepower over the fuel mileage, and some guys don't tune that way. When you have a race-winning car, you don't want to give up any of the horsepower." Hamlin has fallen 16 points behind Keselowski in the standings.
Clint Bowyer has the Same Issues
Clint Bowyer suffered similar problems with fuel mileage as his main issues at the Dover International Speedway. Bowyer, who is currently in fourth place in the Chase with 2117 points, ended the race in ninth position. Clint Bowyer has two wins in the 2012 season but has shown a resilience that could help him move up in the leaderboard.
