The 10 Best Ozzie Guillen Moments of All Time

Yahoo Contributor Network

Rumor has it that Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen may be on the hot seat. That's big news, considering Guillen is in the fist year of a four-year $10 million contract. Then again, the Marlins are not a good team this year with their 66-88 record.

Needless to say, Ozzie and the Marlins are struggling.

I've always been a fan of Ozzie, and I think that he adds some personality to the game. So what if he freaks out from time to time and is surrounded by controversy? That's just Ozzie being Ozzie.

Speaking of Ozzie and controversy, I've made a list of Guillen's 10 most controversial moments.

Here's what I came up with:

10: May 2010: "I'm not going to quit. I'm not a quitter. When I want to quit, I'll do a lot of stupid things and make sure they fire me and get paid." This Ozzie Guillen quote makes my list because it's funny and brutally honest. I mean, who says stuff like that? That's classic Ozzie.

9: February 2010: If you're not following Ozzie Guillen on Twitter, you should be. A couple of years ago during spring training, Ozzie tweeted this: "3 day of Spring Training and im already boredddddddd." Again, I can't think of another manager in the league that would tweet something like that. You have to love the man for his honesty.

8: August 30, 2009: After the Chicago White Sox got thumped by the New York Yankees, Ozzie Guillen was not amused. He let his feelings be known when he said something to the effect that the Little League team he had watched played better than his team. That's a bit insulting to major leaguers, don't you think?

7: June 2009: I don't think Guillen is a fan of Wrigley Field, or Chicago Cubs fans for that matter. In another one of his controversial moments, he called Wrigley Field a bar and said that Cubs fans were stupid. This was his take on why White Sox fans weren't showing up for games at U.S. Cellular Field, except for Cubs games.

6: September 10, 2004: Apparently, Ozzie is not a fan of then-Texas Rangers manager Buck Showalter when he hammered on Showalter's managerial credentials. This makes my list because I am not a Showalter fan, either, and I totally agree with Ozzie's assessment of him.

Sept. 10, 2004

5: August 2004: Guillen is no stranger to arguing with umpires. This is evident after he insulted Hunter Wendelstedt, who is the son of much-respected umpire Harry Wendelstedt. He told Hunter that he was not even a pimple on his daddy's... You get the point.

4: May 2008: This little blowup is Ozzie Guillen at his finest. He hammered on everybody from the Chicago Cubs, the White Sox, and White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf by calling him the worst owner in baseball. This was one of my favorite Guillen tirades.

Ozzie wigs out!

3: May 26, 2010: This was another case of Ozzie not being amused after umpire Joe West ejected him from a game. He said that West was a little too controlling and needed to get off his high horse and handle on-the-field matters with a bit more professionalism. However, Ozzie was obviously 10 times more candid than that.

2: June 29, 2009: This has to be one of my favorite Ozzie quotes of all time. After losing to the Detroit Tigers, he said this: "Is the clubhouse closed? We should open it and let them answer why they're so horse *expletive*." Yeah, that vintage Ozzie right there.

After losing to the Tigers

1: July 20, 2011: This is my top Ozzie Guillen moment of all time. His team had just lost a game to the Kansas City Royals and on top of that, Ozzie got smacked in the face by a foul ball. Needless to say, he was not in the best of moods after the game when he called his team's effort pathetic. Again, he said it with quite a bit more color, but you get the point.
